In 1608, the nobleman Jean le Roy de la Boissiere of Poitiers commissioned the florilegium whose painting are reproduced in this journal. They are the work of two or three artists, one of whom may have been Jean le Roy himself. The book's contents reflect his botanical, horticultural, and sporting interests; paintings of flowers, fruits, landscapes, birds, dogs, and other subjects, often further ornamented by decorative borders, adorn its forty-eight vellum leaves. Jean le Roy's florilegium is part of the world-famous collection of The Cleveland Museum of Art.
