Many names have been applied to the enormous range of works produced between the wars, but Art Deco is the one that survived. The name was taken from the great Paris exhibition of 1925: Exposition Internationale des Art Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes. It was at this international forum that the style was first introduced to the world as something new, if not fully formulated. In its broadest definition, this highly absorbent style draws upon diverse sources, many at odds with one another, such as Cubism, Egyptology, Ballet Russe, Native American culture, the Bauhaus, and Hollywood.
