Product Description

The son of artist Charles Blair Leighton, Edmund Blair Leighton (English, 1853–1922) was educated at University College School and later at the Royal Academy Schools. Leighton, whose interest in history was evident in his collection of old musical instruments, art, and furniture—as well as in his artwork—specialized in medieval and Regency subjects in his decorative, fastidiously produced paintings. Although not a member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, his work is often associated with the Pre-Raphaelite and Romantic styles of painting. He began exhibiting at the Royal Academy in his early twenties and continued to do so annually for the next forty years, yet he never became an Associate or an Academician.

These two Leighton images are from the Manchester Art Gallery in England. Contains five each of the following two notecards: On the Threshold, 1900; and ’Off,’ 1899.
