The works of Will Barnet (American, b. 1911) are simple yet elegant, tinged with mood. He explores social realism, abstraction, and modernism, all the while playing to fleeting emotions. His images invite reflection, evoke nostalgia, and recall poignant memories.
Grounded in classical sensibilities, the artist is always searching for clarity and harmony as he offers his interpretation of life’s events. What could be the mundane become the important moments of both the viewer and the subject.
This distinguished painter has profoundly influenced twentieth-century art. A member of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters and of the National Academy of Design, New York, Barnet studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Art Students League in New York. Among the schools where he has taught are the Art Students League, Cooper Union, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and Cornell and Yale Universities; his paintings and prints are in prestigious collections worldwide.
